The TV anime series "TRIGUN STARGAZE" began airing in Japan on Saturday, January 10, 2026.

The stage event featured original creator Yasuhiro Nightow, Sakura Ando (voice of Meryl Stryfe), Yoshimasa Hosoya (voice of Nicholas D. Wolfwood), and Chika Ayamori (voice of Milly Thompson).

TRIGUN STARGAZE Tokyo Premiere in TOKYO COMIC CON 2025 Official Report

TOKYO COMIC CON 2025, a pop culture event held at Makuhari Messe over three days from Friday, December 5 to Sunday, December 7, 2025, hosted the Tokyo premiere of "TRIGUN STARGAZE" on Saturday, December 6.

Original creator Yasuhiro Nightow, Sakura Ando (voice of Meryl Stryfe), Yoshimasa Hosoya (voice of Nicholas D. Wolfwood), and Chika Ayamori (voice of Milly Thompson) appeared on stage, where they spoke at length about the appeal and highlights of TRIGUN STARGAZE.

Original creator Yasuhiro Nightow and the three cast members took the stage before an audience eagerly awaiting the first-ever screening of episodes 1 and 2, as well as the series' first official event. The Tokyo premiere began to warm applause from the crowd.

Nightow, who had also appeared earlier in the year at New York Comic Con 2025 in October, greeted the audience with a slightly bashful smile, saying, "I'm truly happy that TRIGUN STARGAZE is finally being screened in Japan, and it's an honor to be here on this stage at Comic Con." His words were met with heartfelt, enthusiastic applause from the fans.

Sakura Ando, who voices Meryl Stryfe, took the stage carrying a stand-in for Vash the Stampede voice actor Masatoshi Matsuoka, who was unable to attend the event: her personal Vash plush.

Smiling brightly, Ando shared, "I was actually pretty nervous before coming out, but when I saw Nightow-sensei looking even more nervous backstage, I somehow calmed down instead (laughs). I'm really happy to be here and see everyone's faces like this." Her cheerful comment drew warm laughter and applause from the audience.

Yoshimasa Hosoya, who voices Nicholas D. Wolfwood, said, "This is the first screening in Japan, so honestly, I think Nightow-sensei is probably the most nervous one here today (laughs). We're all really eager to hear your reactions, since you'll be among the very first to see it. Your impressions mean a lot to us, so please be sure to share them on social media and let us know what you think." His lighthearted remarks energized the crowd and drew enthusiastic applause.

Chika Ayamori, who voices Milly Thompson, shared, "This is my first regular role, and also my first time appearing at an anime event, so I was pretty nervous at first. But when I saw the three of you on stage, I immediately felt more relaxed and thought, ‘Okay, I’m here, I’ve got this!’ (laughs)." She greeted the audience with a cheerful smile reminiscent of Milly herself, instantly warming the atmosphere.

A video message also arrived from Yoshitsugu Matsuoka, who voices the main character Vash the Stampede but was unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. His message caught not only the cast but even Nightow-sensei off guard, with lines like, "I heard you’re planning to do something interesting," and "Hosoya-san… I’m counting on you." The unexpected comments sent a ripple of laughter and excitement through the venue.

Meanwhile, Ando and Ayamori, standing by the screen playing the recording, immediately protested, exclaiming, "None of that was written on the cue cards!" and "What a lie!" "That’s such a terrible thing for a sempai to do!" The scene highlighted the mutual trust (?) shared between the cast and the original creator.

Following the lively exchange sparked by Matsuoka’s message, the latest official trailer was unveiled on stage. Along with it, new information was announced, including details about the theme song, its performing artist, and additional cast members. A video message from ano, who performs the opening theme, was also shown to the audience.

Commenting on the theme song, Hosoya said, “The newly released trailer packs a lot into a very short time, and I felt that ano’s music perfectly matched the speed and tempo of the visuals.”

Nightow added with a laugh, “Both songs this time are bright and positive. Compared to that, STAMPEDE felt a bit more subdued, like getting through a rough week (laughs). I never imagined that my aesthetic and ano’s aesthetic would intersect, but TRIGUN has a way of taking me to unexpected places.”

As the story centers on the future Vash chooses, the discussion also turned to Vash’s appeal as a character.

Hosoya shared his thoughts, saying, “Vash is incredibly philosophical. He accepts and forgives everything, and to me his spirituality feels almost on the level of a Buddha or a god. Rather than a protagonist who grows by overcoming hardship, he feels more like a sacred being—someone who isn’t quite human.”

Hearing this, Nightow responded with visible emotion: “When I was first releasing the series, I kept thinking about how hard I could whack Vash’s kindness. I drew it desperately, and it was doing damage to me too, I was completely worn down by it. So hearing that Hosoya-san picked up on that really makes me happy.”

Time flew by during the densely packed talk. As the event drew to a close, Nightow-sensei shared a message for fans eagerly awaiting TRIGUN STARGAZE:

“The team at Orange has been pouring their hearts into this ever since TRIGUN STAMPEDE. The same staff who delivered such incredible work on STAMPEDE have told me that this project has been even tougher... I'm very excited to see what they’ve created. I think it’s a work that will pull you in right up to the very end, so I hope you’re looking forward to it.”

The venue erupted in warm applause as the event came to an end, closing on a high note and leaving the audience buzzing with anticipation.

Summary

Two and a half years have passed since Lost JuLai, the catastrophe that left an entire city in ruins and shocked the world. Meryl, now a senior reporter, reunites with Nicholas while continuing her search for Vash alongside her junior reporter, Milly. Nicholas is convinced that Knives' group is behind the recent string of plant thefts.

Meanwhile, Vash is living in hiding in a remote town under the name Eriks, when a girl named Jessica appears with an SOS from Home. In order to protect those he loves, Vash resolves to sever his ties with them.

As each person's destiny begins to intertwine and the story moves once more, a message arrives from the depths of space: “We are a migrant fleet from Earth. Those who wish may join us and journey to a new land.” Hope, joy, and excitement spread—but as if to mock them, the resurrected one-winged angel brings despair and fear. The fate of this planet, which has become a crucible of madness, is finally decided.
