Mai Kazuki is an 11-year-old elementary school student who admires the legendary female magician Emily Howell.

Her destiny changes when she encounters Topo, a fairy who lives inside an old ornamental mirror. Wanting someone to play with, Topo gives Mai a magical bracelet capable of granting any wish. Using its power, Mai transforms into the genius magician Magical Emi.

She joins Magic Carat, a rising magic troupe run by her grandmother, Haruko, and begins performing dazzling illusions unlike anything seen before. As her popularity grows, Mai finds herself living a double life as both an ordinary elementary school student and an idol magician.

This is Pierrot's third magical girl series. Built around the theme of a young girl's coming-of-age, newcomer singer Yoko Obata was chosen to voice the lead role. She also performed the opening, ending, and insert songs for the series.

A story from before Emi encountered her wondrous magic. The Kazuki family had been living an ordinary, peaceful life, when a new life was about to be born into their home. Emi's mother is pregnant, expecting a baby boy - Mai's younger brother, Misaki. Soon to become a big sister, Mai is filled with excitement and throws herself into practicing how to ride a bicycle. However, her everyday happiness is suddenly shaken when her mother is unexpectedly hospitalized. Left alone with her worries, Mai is overwhelmed by anxiety and loneliness...
