Nanami & Geto Voice Actors Share Their Thoughts!

Voice of Kento Nanami: Kenjiro Tsuda

──What are your thoughts on your fans' enthusiasm? Have you had any fan interactions that left a lasting impression?

Even before I joined the cast, the energy around the original series was incredible, and it really left an impression on me.

When it was announced that I’d be playing Nanami, it happened to be over a weekend, and the reaction was huge. Then, that Monday, the new Jump chapter came out… and Nanami died. Those few days were a real emotional rollercoaster. Jujutsu Kaisen already had tremendous momentum even before I stepped in, and with the manga and anime boosting each other from season 1 onward, I could really feel just how powerful and beloved the series had become.

Because the anime streams worldwide at the same time, I could feel the passion not only from fans in Japan, but from fans across the globe. When I traveled overseas, people would come up to me, and whenever I asked how they knew me, almost everyone said they’d seen Jujutsu Kaisen

──How did it feel to perform Nanami's final monologue during the Shibuya Incident, as well as the intense battle scenes with the cursed spirits?

I already knew how the Shibuya Incident arc would end before I started recording, so going into it, I felt this mix of excitement, getting to perform such an important arc, and sadness, knowing I was about to graduate from the show. While acting, I just focused on giving my all to Nanami so that I’d have no regrets.

When I finished recording all my parts, it honestly felt like Jujutsu Kaisen had reached its conclusion for me, too. I could really feel how carefully Nanami’s final moments were adapted, and I felt the love the director and the whole anime staff had for him. I think each of us did our part to send Nanami off in our own way, and that scene is something we all created together with love and enthusiasm.

Voice of Suguru Geto: Takahiro Sakurai

──Your first appearance is as the Pseudo-Geto who confronts Gojo, a moment that from Gojo’s perspective is a reunion with the best friend he thought he had killed. When performing this scene, were there any particular points or feelings you focused on bringing out in your acting?

I wanted to capture that feeling of something being off, uncanny, and confusing, basically what Gojo senses as he realizes something isn’t right. After all, Pseudo-Geto had spent a huge amount of time preparing to trap him in the Prison Realm.

At the same time, Pseudo-Geto is brimming with confidence, fully convinced he can pull it off, and he’s pushing Gojo’s buttons while enjoying the conversation. That’s how I approached the role, but honestly… I couldn’t resist having a little fun with it myself, too.

──You’ve portrayed multiple versions of Geto: Jujutsu High-era, Curse User-era, and even Noritoshi Kamo. How would you personally describe Geto as a character?

By the time the anime adaptation came around, both the Jujutsu High and Curse User eras had already been covered, and the manga had explored him thoroughly. So I approached the role with the sense that I already understood his feelings. The line he delivers when parting ways with Gojo, “I’ve decided how I want to live,” really stayed with me, as well as the doubts about whether there were any other paths he could take.

It wasn’t a moment of sudden determination; his path had been set long ago. He had already decided how he wanted to live, and it was clear that it wasn’t a path Satoru would want for him. So if Satoru decides to kill him for that, well, then that too has meaning. Those were the emotions behind the confrontation, and I wanted to make sure I approached them without making them feel negative or wrong.

The Noritoshi Kamo scenes get a bit trickier. It’s hard to put into words, but I was thinking carefully about the character’s mechanics when approaching the role. You could say it’s a method that feels almost mathematical or musical, manipulating the voice like an instrument.

It is interesting to do from the perspective of someone trying to convey something specific, but it is difficult and not the usual method as an actor. Playing Hidden Inventory / Premature Death Suguru Geto was really fun, though. Through one character, I’m getting to explore the difference between what’s “fun” and what’s “interesting,” and I’m really savoring that.
