Prologue

"Rascal Does Not Dream of a Sister Venturing Out"

Sakuta Azusagawa is heading into term three of his second year at high school.
Mai Sakurajima, his senpai and girlfriend, is in her third year: the two of them don’t have much time left together as fellow students at Minegahara High School.

Meanwhile, his younger sister Kaede, who had previously been a shut-in for a long time, confides to Sakuta a secret she has never told anyone else.

“I want to go to your school, big brother.”

This decision is a huge deal for Kaede. Despite knowing what an extremely difficult choice this is, Sakuta decides to support Kaede with kindness. The hopes and feelings Kaede’s old self has entrusted to her new self: this is the story of the two of them taking a step into the future.

"Rascal Does Not Dream of a Knapsack Kid"

It is now March, and there is only one month left of term three. Sakuta’s girlfriend Mai Sakurajima will soon graduate high school. As he waits for Mai at the seashore at Shichirigahama, an elementary school child appears in front of him. She looks exactly like Mai did when she was a child actress…

“Who are you, old man?”

Was it a dream? An illusion? As Sakuta thinks back to this strange experience, he gets a call from his father.

“Your mom says she wants to see Kaede.”

Sakuta’s mother, who was unable to stop what happened to Kaede, has been in hospital for a long time. Now, she has sent a wish to meet Kaede.

Sakuta decides to go with Kaede to fulfill that wish, and they meet their mother again after a long time apart. However, during this reunion, he cannot hide his stress. An unusual wound appears on Sakuta’s body. Is this the beginning of a new onset of Adolescence Syndrome?
